Ishpeming, Michigan – February 25, 2025: Marquette County Habitat for Humanity invites the community to celebrate the journeys of Sheila Brand and Theresa Lancour at the dedication of the 112th and 113th Habitat homes. The event will take place on Thursday, February 27th at 3:00 PM at Faith Lutheran Church, Ishpeming, MI.
Sheila Brand’s path to homeownership began in April 2024 when she was approved as a partner family. Partner families must demonstrate a need for safe, affordable housing and commit to partnering with Habitat, including contributing 250 sweat equity hours—invested time working on the construction of their home. Groundbreaking commenced shortly after her approval, and with the help of both local and out-of-town volunteer groups, the home began to take shape. Together with the Brands, volunteers raised walls, installed windows, and completed the interior finishes.
Theresa Lancour’s journey mirrored Sheila’s, starting with her approval as a partner family in July 2023. Like all partner families, Theresa demonstrated both need and a willingness to invest 250 sweat equity hours into her future home. Groundbreaking and construction began in tandem with Sheila’s home, supported by a dedicated network of volunteers. With many hands, including those of the Lancour family, the house transformed from an empty lot into a completed, welcoming home.
This winter marked the completion of both homes, turning once-vacant lots into affordable, energy-efficient residences. These homes represent the 112th and 113th houses built by Marquette County Habitat for Humanity in over 30 years of service.
Join us for a heartfelt dedication ceremony featuring cake, refreshments, and a celebration to mark the beginning of Sheila Brand’s and Theresa Lancour’s homeownership journeys.
